Book Review : One of Us Is Lying
A Novel by Karen M. McManus
One of Us Is Lying, by Karen M. McManus, fronts as a story entailing highschool romance, drama, academics, and athletics with an underlying, yet chilling mystery. The novel features four teenagers portraying various different highschool stereotypes, all united by unfortunate circumstances. These circumstances entail the death of one of their classmates and each of the four being accused of murder. Upon reading this book, I thoroughly enjoyed the young adult aspects that mirrored a classic high school story, whilst still being engrossed in a mystery that assumed the premise of the book. As I read, I felt immersed in the story and finished the book in less than twenty-four hours.
If you are a reader searching for a fast-paced read, this is exactly the book you are looking for! However as much as I enjoyed this book, it lacked the emotional quality and depth I personally enjoy. In terms of a light or summer read, this novel is perfect. If you are looking to evoke passion and cogitation, I would suggest searching elsewhere. The public reaction to this novel mirrors my own opinions and has accounted for great success. A limited television series was released just a few months ago! That said, to all my readers searching for a an exciting, young adult novel that you cannot put down, look no further, One of Us Is Lying will become your newest bookshelf staple!
